Breath of fresh air

The recent actions of the Victoria Planning Minister appointed administrators that replaced the sacked Geelong Council are welcome and long over due. Several inappropriate permits approved by the entrenched CoGG Planning Department have been rejected by the administrators and by VCAT out of common sense and respect for the planning and Environmental Act 1987 that is consistently ignored by those with special interest agenda’s.

A clean sweep and sacking of the Geelong Planning Department from the top to the bottom would finish the job Minister Natalie Hutchins started and clean the slate for newly elected Councillors to represent the people for the first time in decades. G. Roberts, Geelong.

Warm Welcome

The reason we chose Lara when we retired to Victoria last year was for the sense of community that you don’t seem to get in the usual suburbs I plan to be here for as long as I can. I hope to be more involved in preserving Lara’s life style as part of this community. I really appreciate the warm welcome to the TLC group. Regards  J. Stranger, Lara

Lara issues

I look forward to the responsible, controlled growth of Lara. The safety and provision of our infrastructure, the preservation of our rural environment, heritage and wildlife resources is paramount to me.

Six-ways and the rail crossing are a catastrophe waiting to happen with its dangerous mix of chockablock pedestrians  and vehicle traffic. Council repeatedly states this is “a Vic Roads duty”. I want council to push them for immediate results to correct many safety shortfalls on Lara’s roads made far worse by councils own unbridled expansion scheme unleashed on Lara. Building permits and council rates revenue should not come before safety.

We have a couple rare jewels here in Lara that are under development threat. Serendip Sanctuary and You Yang’s Park both need a permanent buffer zone of 3KM baring any further encroachment or development other than the present rural living and farm zones. A 50+ year supply of land exists west of our town centre to accommodate the growth.

Entrance to Caltex Service Station, Princess Highway at Corio

This is a very dangerous spot as motorist are traveling at 80KM when suddenly someone in front of you jams their breaks on to  turn into the service station. It should have a lane for the left turn into the driveway. K. Simons, Lara.

Grass fire hazard, Council land in Lara
I am concerned about the council land bounded by Kees Rd and forest Rd North(Old BMX Track). While some grass has been mowed the rest of the block is a mess. Also it appears the Sibelco lime crushing plant has closed and is in need of a clean up. What is the proposals for this area? G. Williams, Lara
